In 2012 and 2013, Garrett was voted by his peers to be one of Utah's "Legal Elite" in the area of personal injury law. This prestigious recognition is from Utah Business magazine.
Garrett is a Utah native who graduated from the University of Utah with his bachelor's degree in Political Science. He then graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he received his Juris Doctor degree. While in law school he was a summer intern for Judge Pamela T. Greenwood of the Utah Court of Appeals. Upon graduating from law school, Garrett moved back to Utah and began practicing in the area of personal injury with one of the largest personal injury law firms in the state. While working there for six years, he gained valuable experience and handled nearly every kind of personal injury case.

Preston has been handling personal injury cases since 1994. Over the years, Preston has sucessfully resolved several multi-million dollar catastrophic injury cases for the benefit of his clients.
He earned a B.A. in finance from the University of Utah in 1989. He also completed his legal education at the University of Utah and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1992. Following law school Preston served as a judicial clerk for Chief Justice Gordon R. Hall of the Utah Supreme Court from 1992 to 1994.
