What you Should Consider Before Playing

Football is one of the widest played sports in America. Millions of dollars are spent each year promoting the sport and from a young age kids start participating in the contact sport to hone their skills and likelihood of receiving scholarships to colleges around the nation. As your personal injury lawyers Handy & Handy attorneys want you to know that risks associated with playing football so you can take appropriate precautions and protect yourself from possible serious injury.

Frontline on PBS just released a new documentary unveiling the connection between football and brain damage entitled "League of Denial". This telling documentary shows how frequent concussions from playing the contact sport can lead to a disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalophathy or CTE.

This disease can lead to serious memory loss, brain damage and even death. Although the NFL has a long list of former players who suffer from the disease, it is not a problem limited to the professional league. CTE has been found even in High School football players. This is why it is suggested that children are not introduced to playing the sport at young ages as it can cause serious injury to the brain.

ESPN has revealed that between the ages of 50 and 59 former NFL players are 14 to 23 times more likely than the general population to develop Alzheimer's and dementia.

Other sports such as boxing, you can imagine, also have high risks of developing this dangerous disease.

As your personal injury lawyers we encourage you to take precautions when participating in any contact sport. If you or someone you know has received a brain injury from sports or other mishaps, contact us for help in getting what you deserve.
