One of the worst scenarios a driver could ever imagine is being responsible for an auto-pedestrian accident, especially one resulting in a fatality. Auto-pedestrian accidents are serious and occur at alarming rates.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2017 an average of one person was killed every 88 minutes in an auto-pedestrian accident. This was a 1.7 percent decrease from the previous year but that still amounts to 5,977 deaths.
If you've spent time in downtown Salt Lake City recently you may have noticed a new method of transportation is hitting the streets and the sidewalks. Companies like Bird, Lime and Razor are supplying urban areas with hundreds of electric scooters as an easy, eco-friendly transportation solution for metropolitan areas. More than 10,000 riders have enjoyed these scooters since they first appeared a few weeks ago in the Salt Lake downtown area.
